Maintenance Guide

AUI GROUP Care & Maintenance Guide

Thank you for choosing an AUI GROUP centrepiece bowl. Crafted from premium paulownia wood, ceramic, and marble, your piece is designed to last. Proper care will ensure it remains a beautiful part of your home for years to come. Please follow these simple guidelines tailored to each material.

General Care for All Materials

  • Hand Washing: Always hand wash with a soft cloth or sponge. Do not place in a dishwasher.

  • Immediate Drying: Dry thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth after washing or after contact with moisture.

  • Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Keep your bowl away from direct heat sources (like radiators or ovens) and avoid sudden temperature changes to prevent cracking or warping.

  • Gentle Handling: While our materials are durable, avoid knocking or dropping your bowl on hard surfaces.

Material-Specific Instructions

1. Paulownia Wood Bowls

  • Cleaning: Use a damp (not wet) cloth with a mild soap. Wipe gently along the grain. Avoid prolonged soaking in water.

  • Drying: Always dry immediately and completely to prevent the wood from absorbing moisture, which can cause warping or cracking.

  • Maintenance: To maintain the wood's natural lustre and prevent drying, occasionally treat the bowl with a food-safe mineral oil or beeswax. Apply a small amount with a cloth, let it absorb for a few hours, then buff off any excess.

  • Important: Not recommended for storing very wet or acidic foods for extended periods.

2. Ceramic Bowls

  • Cleaning: Wash with warm, soapy water. Stubborn stains can be soaked briefly or gently scrubbed with a baking soda paste.

  • Staining: Glazed ceramic is highly stain-resistant. For unglazed finishes, avoid leaving staining substances (like coffee or turmeric) for long periods.

  • Chips & Cracks: Inspect regularly for hairline cracks or chips, especially if used for food.

3. Marble Bowls

  • Cleaning: Use a pH-neutral cleaner or a mild soap with water. Avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon juice, bleach) and abrasive scrubs, as they can etch (dull) and damage the marble surface.

  • Staining: Marble is porous. Wipe up spills immediately, especially from wine, coffee, or oils. Consider using a marble sealer for additional protection if the bowl is used frequently.

  • Etching: Be aware that contact with acidic substances can cause permanent dull spots known as etching. This is a natural characteristic of marble.

What to Avoid

  • Dishwashers: The high heat and harsh detergents can damage all three materials.

  • Abrasive Cleaners & Pads: These will scratch surfaces, especially marble and glazed ceramic.

  • Microwave Use: Not recommended for any of our bowls, especially those with metallic accents or uncertain glazes.
